Fate do me right
Written by: John Cote Crazy from this heat and the air You can cut with a knife So I jump in my car And head out for the coast tonight Because it's there that I know I can find some piece of mind Looking out at the sea As it dances on the shore line I know how you'd look right now With you hair flaming on the breeze You'd change this state of isolation Into a fountain of ecstasy But I went and put it on the line To pursue this dream of mine Now alone I ponder on this night Did fate do me right? The time had finally come for me To get up the nerve to leave And set out to seek A future in these hasty streets These feet, I know Should have touched down long ago But they just can't keep From marching to their own beat I can't bother stressing about That road behind me stretching out Littered up with broken dreams Pledges made but never seen As the years role on incessantly The music still beacons me Like a moth into the light But did fate do me right? How many more rounds are there left to go And how many punches will I need to throw I've hit that mat so many times I've got the markings on my face to show But I'll savor in spoils of this fight Should fate do me right As the tide draws the ocean out And the sand immerges from the sea There's an icy blue illumination On this all-too-momentary scene Fortunate for me to see But tonight you would be here to be A witness to this lovely sight If fate did me right |
